The Epic12 Series electric heated air curtain is built for nonstop industrial operation — combining cleaner airflow, smarter controls, and lower operating cost in a single integrated unit. Engineered specifically for the 60% of industrial doors that fall between 8 and 14 feet, the 108″ format suits loading docks, shipping bays, warehouses, distribution centers, production facilities, and manufacturing environments. The 3-motor ¾ HP AC drive delivers approximately 10% more airflow than comparable competing units. Integrated electric heating (36 kW) provides supplemental warming during open-door operation, with single-stage thermostat control standard and two-stage available via the Advanced Control upgrade. Removable front panel and fan deck allow full-service access while the unit remains mounted — motor, blower, and electrical components stay accessible for maintenance.

Mounting Options

The Epic12 supports five mounting configurations to fit any installation. Mounting hardware is sold separately:

  • JC-0960-108 — Angled "L" Bracket Kit, Set of 4 (for 108", 120", 144"/3-motor units), Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 — for wall or ceiling mounting
  • JC-0963-108 — Concealed Wall-Mount Backplate Kit for 108" — for flush, low-profile installations
  • JC-0964-KT — Right-Side Vertical Floor Mounting Kit, Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 — for vertical floor mounting beside the door (right side)
  • JC-0965-KT — Left-Side Vertical Floor Mounting Kit, Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 — for vertical floor mounting beside the door (left side)
  • JC-0966-KT — Heavy-Duty 3ft × 3ft Strut Bracket Kit, Set of 2 with Hardware — for industrial strut-based suspended installations
  • Threaded Rod Ceiling Mount (no kit required) — built-in 3/8-16 threaded inserts on top of the unit accept field-supplied threaded rods and nuts. No more than 1-1/2″ of rod should protrude into the unit.

For vertical floor-mount installations, specify the vertical kit (left or right) at time of order — vertical mounting requires factory configuration.

Compatible Accessories

This unit's factory-integrated control panel includes 24V control and dry-contact enable/disable for BMS or fire-relay integration. The following accessories complete a full installation:

Door Activation Switches (one required for auto-operation):

  • JC-0216-CC — Plunger Overhead Door Switch (UL/CSA certified)
  • JC-0216-MM — Roller Overhead Door Switch (UL/CSA certified)
  • JM-0219-XX — Heavy-Duty Magnetic Industrial Door Switch

Operational Controls:

  • JC-0209-HOA — Hands-Off-Auto (HOA) Switch with Enclosure — required if HOA functionality is desired with the Basic control package
  • JS-0569-WR — Single-Stage Low-Voltage (24V) Digital Thermostat (°F/°C selectable) — single-stage thermostat for Basic control package (recommended)
  • JS-0569-DT — Two-Stage 24V Digital Thermostat — required for two-stage heating with Advanced control package

Wall-Mounted Disconnect (required for electric heated models):

  • JC-0233-YY — 180A/600V Wall-Mounted Disconnect Panel (3-Pole) — sized for this 208V/3-phase 36 kW heated configuration

A factory-installed unit-mounted disconnect is available as an upgrade for most Epic12 models — specify at time of order (no separate part number). Not compatible with electric heated 208V/3-phase models in 108″, 120″, 144″, or 168″ widths.

Controls & Activation

The Epic12 ships with a Basic Control Package standard. An Advanced Control Package is available as a factory upgrade for high-traffic doors and BMS integration. Both packages are factory-installed within the unit's integrated control panel — no external control box required.

Basic Control Package (Included Standard):

  • Auto On/Off via door switch (door switch sold separately)
  • Enable/Disable dry contact for BMS or fire-relay integration
  • Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) input (HOA switch sold separately)
  • Single-stage heating control (single-stage thermostat recommended)

Advanced Control Package (Factory Upgrade):

  • All features of Basic, plus:
  • MODBUS BMS connectivity
  • Two-stage heating control (two-stage thermostat required)
  • Built-in 20-second time delay for high-traffic doors
  • Schwank.ONE remote monitoring & control connectivity

Engineered for the Door

The Epic12 is engineered for door openings between 3 and 14 feet wide, with recommended mounting height of 12 feet for climate separation or 10 feet for insect control. The USDA Mosquito and Fly Research Unit has confirmed that properly designed air curtains exclude 95–99% of flying insects. Schwank's complimentary Engineering Design Assistance includes load calculations based on your specific opening dimensions, climate, and door usage — ensuring proper velocity profiling (400–800 FPM at floor level across the full opening) for an optimal seal without discomfort to people passing through. Frequently Asked Questions

How much energy can an Epic12 save?
Air curtains can reduce energy loss at open doors by up to 30%, depending on traffic patterns, indoor/outdoor temperature differential, and total door-open time. Most installations deliver ROI within 1–3 years; high-utilization docks operating 20+ hours/day typically see payback in 6–12 months. Regional rebate programs (e.g. Enbridge in Ontario) can further accelerate payback — check with us for current rebate availability in your area.

What door heights is the Epic12 designed for?
The Epic12 is engineered for mounting heights of 10 to 14 feet, with 12 feet as the recommended installation height for optimal climate-separation performance. For pure insect-control applications, 10 feet is recommended.

Is the Epic12 AMCA certified?
Yes. The Epic12 is independently AMCA-certified for air performance per AMCA Publications 211 and 220 — covering airflow rate, average outlet velocity, outlet velocity uniformity, velocity projection, and power rating at free delivery. It also carries UL certification for North American electrical safety standards.

Does the Epic12 require an external control box?
No. The Epic12 features a factory-integrated control panel with single-point wiring entry. No external control box is required — a major installation advantage over competitive air curtains that ship with separate control boxes requiring additional wall space and conduit.

What is the warranty?
Ambient (unheated) models carry a 5-year limited warranty. Electric heated models carry a 2-year limited warranty. Warranty begins from date of shipment, applies to the original owner and subsequent transferees, and is conditional on installation per manufacturer specifications and applicable codes.

What heated models are currently available?
Electric heated 600V/3-phase models are currently shipping. 208V/3-phase and 480V/3-phase heated models are coming soon from Schwank — contact us to be notified when these configurations release, or to discuss current alternatives. All heated models require a wall-mounted disconnect switch sized per the unit's amperage and a thermostat (single- or two-stage depending on control package).
